Where to stay in León
Old Town - Barrio Romántico
first trip, all-round base
Inside the sights, Cathedral and San Isidoro five minutes each way, with Romantico tapas bars downstairs.
Barrio Húmedo / Plaza Mayor
night-first travellers
Maximum atmosphere and minimum distance to bars, but the full soundtrack until late.
San Marcos / west riverbank
luxury, space and parking
Monumental, calm and green by the river, 12 to 15 minutes on foot to the Cathedral.
Ensanche / Ordoño II and station side
value and transport
Larger modern hotels, station nearby, wider streets and easier parking, with less charm.
University / Eras de Renueva and outskirts
not recommended for visitors
Residential and campus districts where you will commute into the city you came to see.
Think twice about
- Directly over a Barrio Húmedo bar street
Not dangerous, just loud until 2 to 3am on Thursday to Saturday nights. Choose it only for atmosphere.
- Immediate station and bus station edges late at night
Empty and unlovely rather than unsafe. Standard awareness and a zipped bag are enough.
