Things to do in Lahore
And where to stay, the best time to visit, what a day costs, and the traps to skip.
Best time to visit Lahore

The real window. Smog usually cleared, warm days, cool nights and the festival calendar peaks.
Good but heating up, with Mela Chiraghan in late March and April temperatures in the 30s.
Worst for heat, regularly 40 to 45 degrees. Come only if you must and live nocturnally.
Monsoon, very hot and humid with flooding, mosquitoes and dengue risk between downpours.
Temperatures ease but smog can start in October, so check the AQI trend before booking.
Worst for air despite the best temperatures, with hazardous smog documented in November and December.

- Lahore Junction station, Lakshmi Chowk, Brandreth Road and Gawalmandi
Transport and budget hotel belt with chaotic traffic, fumes, all night noise and the densest pickpocketing and touting. Eat here, leave by car.

Wholesale congestion, industrial traffic, a bottleneck bridge commute, flood exposure in heavy monsoon and some of the worst winter smog.
- Ring Road sprawl past DHA sold as near the airport
No walkable anything and no restaurant scene. You pay in daily car time everything saved on the room.

Is Lahore safe?
- Smog is the top health risk from late October to January, so check IQAir, mask on bad days and limit outdoor time.
- Pickpocketing and phone snatching are the realistic crime risks in bazaars, the station belt and crowded shrines.
- Drink bottled or hotel filtered water only and eat street food from busy stalls cooking fresh in front of you.
- Dress modestly, cover heads at mosques and shrines, and never fly drones near the Fort, Cantt or Wagah.
Lahore travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Cooco's Den is a view destination, not a food destination, and card payment cannot be relied on.
- Fort Road Food Street in daylight has shutters, heat and no view payoff.
- Imported food malls are not a Lahore experience, and Shalimar at midday on a weekend is crowded and harsh.
- International full day tours at very high prices cost far more than a local driver guide plus your own entry fees.
Getting around Lahore: public transport and more
- Use a hotel arranged private driver by the day and Careem or inDrive for point to point trips.
- Auto rickshaws suit short hops and the Walled City fringe, agreeing the fare first if not on an app.
- In the Walled City you walk or rickshaw because streets are too narrow for cars.
- Traffic is the timetable, so leave 2.5 to 3 hours before the Wagah ceremony and buffer airport runs.
