• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
Best months, with 18 to 31C days, cool evenings and the clearest Margalla views. November is driest and calmest.
Winter is cold, crisp and sometimes foggy, with days around 18 to 20C and nights 2 to 8C. Confirm heating.
Summer heat to avoid if you can, up to 39 to 43C in June. Sightseeing and trails are dawn only.
Monsoon is dramatic and disruptive, with very heavy rain, slippery trails, landslide advisories and dengue risk.

Attractive suburbs 45 to 70 minutes from central Islamabad in traffic, with no walkable link to sights.
- G-9 / I-8 / I-9 / I-10 markaz strips

Is Islamabad safe?
- Islamabad is generally one of the safest cities in Pakistan, with visible security in F-6, F-7, F-8 and the Diplomatic Enclave.
- Real risks are traffic, trail injuries, heat in May and June, and monsoon flooding. Do not hike quiet trails alone at dawn or dusk.
- A rally can close the Red Zone for a day or two. Obey hotel advice and reroute via Margalla Road.
- Drink bottled or sealed water only, and use repellent at dawn and dusk in monsoon for dengue.
Islamabad travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Listings for Monal at Pir Sohawa are outdated. It closed in September 2024 and reopened at IMARAT Downtown in March 2026.
- Murree Mall Road on weekends is overrated. Aim for Patriata, the Pipeline Track and Nathiagali instead.
- Anyone selling tickets to Faisal Mosque is scamming, as entry is free. Agree Rawal Lake boating prices before boarding.
- Apartments advertised as Islamabad in Bahria or DHA are a distance trap.
Getting around Islamabad: public transport and more
- Islamabad is car centric and not walkable between sectors. Plan on wheels except inside a markaz or park.
- Careem and inDrive are the default ride hails. Keep small cash and give sector, street and a markaz landmark.
- Hire a car and driver by the day for Taxila, Khanpur and Murree, agreeing price, fuel, tolls and return time in writing.
- Metro Bus serves the Saddar to Pak Secretariat corridor only. The airport is 25 to 30 km west, 45 to 75 minutes.
