- Emergency numbers are 17 for police, 18 for fire and 15 for ambulance. Medical care is in Dakar, not at the lake.

- Guides who present themselves as free and then offer jeep, quad and boat trips at high opening prices. Agree a total first.
- Paying for a Dakar Rally finish experience. The rally left Africa after 2007 and no longer finishes at Lac Rose.
- Expecting strong pink colour in or just after the rainy season, when rain dilutes the brine and the colour fades.
Getting around Lac Rose: public transport and more
- Hire a private taxi from Dakar to wait and bring you back, and confirm the return and waiting time in the agreed price.
- The cheap route is shared transport toward Keur Massar, then a local taxi for the last roughly 5 km to the lake.
