Where to stay in Jingzhou
Ancient City, Jingzhou District
first trip, history first
The wall is your morning walk and the museum, temples and Dajing Street dining are on foot or a short ride.
Shashi District, Wanda Plaza and Jingzhong Road
modern comfort, shopping and dining
The commercial city with malls, the densest dining and several of the highest rated full service hotels.
Jingzhou Railway Station and Fantawild area
transit and theme park families
Good hotels and a trivial Fantawild commute, but taxi dependent and characterless as an ancient city base.
Think twice about
- Far railway station and development zone sprawl
Not unsafe, just taxi dependent with dead evenings for a history trip. Use it only for transit or Fantawild stays.
- Jiangling county town
Not unsafe, but it is a separate county town, not a Jingzhou base. Basing there means crossing the plain by taxi for every sight.
- Songzi and Honghu as a Jingzhou base
Both are excursion overnights 80 to 100 plus km away, not suburbs. Stay there for the lake or hot spring, not for Jingzhou.

Is Jingzhou safe?
- Watch for silent e bikes around the wall gates and in Shashi commercial streets, especially when crossing.
- Swim only in managed water park settings, never from Yangtze embankments, and respect flood season closures on dike paths.
- Summer heat on the wall top is the main health risk, so carry water and treat heavy plum rain as a schedule changer.
- Emergency numbers are 110 for police and 120 for ambulance, and your hotel desk is the practical first call for anything.
Jingzhou travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- The giant Guan Yu statue was dismantled in 2021, so any itinerary centred on it is out of date and the Guandi Temple is the living Guan Yu site.
- Xuanmiao Temple divides visitors sharply, including a 2024 account of emptied halls and fairground clutter, so pay for nothing extra there.
- Buy the wall at night as components, not as a bundled Three Kingdoms night tour at a group markup, since the moat park view is largely free.
- Crayfish outside May to September and lotus outside June to August are shadows of themselves, however hopefully they are sold.
Getting around Jingzhou: public transport and more
- Jingzhou District holds the ancient city and museum, Shashi District about 7 km east holds Wanshou Pagoda and the commercial hotels, and cheap taxis or DiDi link them.
- Inside the ancient city, walk or take the sightseeing buggy at about 35 to 45 yuan a person rather than a hire quadricycle for the wall circuit.
- Jingzhou Railway Station has high speed trains to Wuhan in about 1.5 to 2 hours and to Yichang in about 1 hour, and there is no metro.
- For Xiongjiazhong, Weishui, Quchi River and Honghu, hire a car and driver for the day through your hotel.
