Best time to visit Isparta
• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
Rose harvest from late May to early June, with dawn picking, distilleries running and the best lake and hiking weather.
Lavender colour in Kuyucak from late June to mid July, then harvest from late July. Go early in the day.
Best St Paul Trail walking in spring and autumn. July and August are too hot for exposed sections.
Davraz ski season, snow dependent, most reliable in January and February. Other sights are cold and quiet.
Warmest lake swimming, but peak heat, canyon and lavender crowds, and the worst hiking conditions.

Where to stay in Isparta
Yeşilada, Eğirdir
lake holiday, couples and slow stays
The peninsula puts the lake, fish restaurants, sunset walk and pensions in one walkable and quiet cluster.
Eğirdir old town
budget travellers and St Paul Trail walkers
Lanes behind the castle with the best family pensions, the mosque and medrese, the bus station and the market.
Isparta city centre
rose season, ski weekends and one night stops
Full service hotels, restaurants and transport, with the easiest access to Güneykent, Kuyucak and Davraz.
Davraz
ski weekends only
Slope position at about 1650 m, isolated outside ski season with little to do in the evenings.
Think twice about
- Isparta Sanayi and otogar highway fringe
Industrial, noisy and built for passing traffic, with nothing to walk to in the evening. Use it for buses and car hire, sleep in the centre.
- Eğirdir newer apartment sprawl away from the lake
Modern residential blocks with no lake view, no restaurants and a drive to everything you came for.
- Yalvaç as a general overnight base
Pleasant for Antiocheia and the trail end, but evenings are very quiet and hotel choice is thin for a general trip. Day trip it from Eğirdir.

Is Isparta safe?
- Carry GPS, poles and at least 2.5 to 3 litres of water per stage on the St Paul Trail, where markings fade and stretches are waterless.
- Swim only at designated lake beaches, watch afternoon wind on Lake Eğirdir, and follow local guidance in low water years.
- Both towns are low crime and conservative, with limited nightlife and limited late transport, so plan early evenings.
Isparta travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Basing in Isparta city for a lake holiday, when Eğirdir is the lake base and Isparta is the rose and ski base.
- Paying for rose or lavender photo tours outside bloom, when the fields are farmland without flowers.
- Treating Eğirdir Castle or Altınkum Beach as major destinations rather than a view stop and a modest swim.
- Buying cheap pure rose oil that is in fact a blend. Buy from the Güneykent cooperative or a reputable centre shop and ask what it is.
Getting around Isparta: public transport and more
- Eğirdir town is walkable and cyclable, but the wider province needs a car for Güneykent, Kuyucak, Davraz, Yazılı Canyon, Kovada, Kızıldağ and Antiocheia.
- Buses link Isparta, Eğirdir, Keçiborlu, Yalvaç and Antalya, but Isparta to Antiocheia by bus takes hours versus about 1 hour 37 by car.
- Antalya Airport is the practical international gateway at about 2 hours to Eğirdir. Isparta airport has limited domestic services.
