- Foshan is very safe for visitors; the realistic risks are traffic, summer heat and crowds, not crime.
- Watch for scooters and motorcycles threading through nominally pedestrian streets in Daliang.
- Carry water and climb Xiqiao Mountain early in summer, when heat and humidity are a genuine health factor.
- Emergency numbers in China are 110 for police, 120 for ambulance and 119 for fire.
Foshan travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- A Guangzhou day trip to Zumiao and the kiln misses Shunde, which is where the famous food actually is.
- Huagai Road is ordinary as a street; its old brand food shops are the attraction, so arrive hungry.
- Shiwan's kiln zone mixes real studio pottery with marked up souvenir ware, so compare shops before buying.
- Jun'an's Bruce Lee Ancestral Home is a small ancestral house, not a major museum, and the park can be half asleep on weekday mornings.
- Raw freshwater fish sashimi carries a parasite risk, so eat it only at reputable Shunde restaurants.
Getting around Foshan: public transport and more
- Ride the Guangfo metro line from Guangzhou through Guicheng and Qiandeng Lake to Zumiao in Chancheng, about an hour end to end.
- Use DiDi and taxis for cross district trips, since Chancheng to Daliang in Shunde takes about 45 to 60 minutes by road.
- Use Amap or Baidu Maps instead of Google Maps, which is unreliable and offset in mainland China.
- Carry your passport for attraction tickets, trains and hotel check in.
