Bandar Seri Begawan travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Do not assume the Brunei Museum at Kota Batu is open. Its building has had an extended renovation closure, so check first.
- Do not arrive at a mosque at prayer time or on Friday morning and expect interior access.
- Do not book Temburong through an international reseller before comparing the local operator price, which can be far lower.
- Do not plan hill walks at midday. Start Tasek Lama and Bukit Shahbandar before 8am and carry more water than seems needed.
Getting around Bandar Seri Begawan: public transport and more
- Walk the centre. Use the Dart app, hotel cars and booked taxis beyond it, because buses are infrequent and street taxis are few.
- Water taxis cross to Kampong Ayer for about BND 1. Agree route, duration and total boat price before boarding any longer trip.
- Renting a car suits a Muara, Jerudong and Kota Batu day. Brunei drives on the left and fuel is inexpensive.
- For Ulu Temburong, always use an operator. It is not a practical self drive day trip on a short visit.
