Things to do in Charlotte
Uptown culture, NoDa's creative streak and Myers Park's quieter pleasures
This is a Charlotte trip for people who want to feel like a local by day two: good coffee in eccentric rooms, proper Southern food, an acclaimed dinner and cocktails that don't require a reservation six weeks out. The pace is easy enough to actually enjoy each neighbourhood rather than sprint through it, and the budget stays honest without skipping anything worth doing.
Day 1: Uptown and Third Ward
Start in Wilmore for coffee, spend the middle of the day between the NASCAR Hall of Fame's simulators and the Bechtler's surprisingly serious art collection, then let Fin and Fino and rooftop cocktails at Merchant and Trade carry the evening.

Skip these
- Rock-bottom motel rates on Sugar Creek, Nations Ford and Independence are a genuine safety and quality mistake.
- Museum of Illusions is fun and franchised but priced like a headline attraction. The Mint, Bechtler and Gantt are free on Wednesday evenings.
- Do not build a night around Queen City Quarter, the old Epicentre. It is mostly chain bars; South End, NoDa and Plaza Midwood are where locals go out.
- Do not expect a historic old town or waste a splurge on a chain steakhouse while Counter- and Rada exist.
