Things to do in Salento
And where to stay, the best time to visit, what a day costs, and the traps to skip.
Best time to visit Salento
• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
Main dry season with driest trails and clearest Los Nevados views, but late December to mid January is peak holiday crowding.
First wet season, green and quiet and muddy, with Semana Santa as a peak exception and the mitaca harvest around April to May.
Second dry window and a very good family window, with moderate crowds and Independence Day weekend spikes.
Second wet season, wettest and cheapest and most atmospheric, with the main coffee harvest building October to December.

Willys jeeps at dawn, restaurants at night and coffee tours from the plaza, though weekends are noisy.
The Mirador / north edge of town
views and quiet, still walkable
A short uphill walk from the plaza trades a small climb for valley views, gardens and silence.
Boquía and the finca belt
slow travel, nature, second visit
Farm stays and eco lodges downhill toward the river, with birds, mist and coffee rows in the morning.
On the Cocora road / Altos de Cocora
Cocora-first trips and retreats
Lodges out toward the valley, walkable to town in daylight and best for dawn access to Cocora.
Filandia as an alternative base
travellers put off by Salento popularity
Quieter, cheaper and equally pretty, but you lose the dawn jeep advantage and evening choice.
Think twice about
