Things to do in Minsk
And where to stay, the best time to visit, what a day costs, and the traps to skip.
Best time to visit Minsk
• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
Best months, warm and green, with long days, terraces, the Minsk Sea and mushroom season by September.
Shoulder months, workable city sightseeing with unreliable excursions and a coat needed by late October.
Worst for a first trip, dark and very cold, but cheapest and best for theatres, museums and Raubichi skiing.

Think twice about
- Shabany and the far industrial fringe
Bleak, industrial and poorly connected for a short trip. Not a danger call, a time and atmosphere call.
- Kamennaya Gorka far west and Chizhovka deep south
Vast dormitory districts with long rides to every sight. Base centrally instead for little more money.
- Unlisted apartments by the station and highway interchanges
Noise, transience and no staff to ask for help. A named hotel in the centre is a better night.

- Assume electronic devices and communications are monitored, and never photograph soldiers, police or checkpoints.
- Avoid demonstrations and political discussion with strangers entirely.
- In winter, dress for minus 10 to minus 20 Celsius and icy pavements, not for heated buildings.
