Where to stay in Manama
Adliya
first trip, food first base
Manama's restaurant quarter around Block 338, the rare area where you can walk to dinner.
Bahrain Bay / Diplomatic Area
luxury and skyline views
The postcard skyline and best hotels, but a business enclave where you ride everywhere.
Seef
families and longer stays
Quieter mall anchored district west of centre, closest to Bahrain Fort and the Ritz Carlton resort grounds.
Juffair
nightlife and value
Expatriate apartment hotel area closest to bars, clubs and late night food, lively and noisy until late.
Muharraq / Marassi / Amwaj
beach and Muharraq led trips
Across the causeways by the aquarium and beaches, but 20 to 30 minutes by taxi for Adliya dinners.
Zallaq
resort stay in add on
Excellent resorts by the waterpark and circuit, but a poor base for Manama sightseeing.
Think twice about
- Hoora / Exhibition Road
Older nightlife strip of budget hotels and drinking crowd bars with a seedy late night feel. Sleep in Juffair or Seef instead.
- Immediate Manama Souq / old centre streets
Very few good hotels, severe parking and traffic, early morning commercial noise and streets empty of leisure life at night.
- Far south (Zallaq / Sakhir / Al Areen) as a sightseeing base
Great resorts but the wrong base. Every Manama sight becomes a 35 to 45 minute drive and evenings collapse to the resort.
- King Fahd Causeway adjacent highway stock
Properties selling causeway convenience serve transit traffic, isolated, car dependent and characterless for a Manama stay.

Is Manama safe?
- Street crime is historically very low.
- Do not photograph military or security sites, avoid demonstrations, and follow Bahraini authority instructions on any alert.
- No public drinking outside licensed venues. Dress modestly, stricter in Muharraq, villages and mosques.
Manama travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Tree of Life as a standalone trip, it is a loop stop not a destination.
- Malls as a thing to do, and the souq at midday when split hours and heat shut the lanes.
- Public mainland beaches, which are poor. Book a beach club, Al Dar, Jarada or a resort instead.
Getting around Manama: public transport and more
- Use Uber or Careem as the visitor default, cheap by Gulf standards and air conditioned.
- Rent a car only for the southern loop and Riffa golf. Zero tolerance for alcohol and driving.
- Walking works in winter only in pockets like Block 338, Bahrain Bay corniche and Muharraq old town.
