Where to stay in Grand Cayman
Central / northern Seven Mile Beach
first trip, beach-first trips
Widest sand, calmest water and the densest walkable dining outside Camana Bay.
Southern Seven Mile Beach / George Town edge
value access to the same beach
Narrower, in places eroded sand and older stock, closer to George Town and the airport.
Camana Bay / inland just off West Bay Road
non-beachfront value
Newer hotels a short walk from the sand with Camana Bay restaurants at the door and lower bills.
West Bay
divers and repeat visitors
Cemetery Beach, Turtle Reef and small inns, quieter and more Caymanian but car dependent.
Rum Point / Cayman Kai, North Side
slow second week or villa group
Homes and small condos on calm North Sound water, 50 to 60 minutes from Seven Mile Beach.
East End
East End diving and quiet
Sunrise coast, empty beaches and dive resorts, windier with rougher swimming and thin evenings.
Think twice about
- George Town commercial centre
Busy by day and empty after office and cruise hours, with no beach. Eastern Avenue and Shedden Road edges have noted burglary and theft clusters.
- Airport / industrial corridor
Functional overnight stock with nothing walkable.
- Seven Mile Beach listings inland across West Bay Road without verified beach access
Do not pay beach prices for a road crossing. Confirm the walk and chairs first.
- Isolated North Side / East End villas for non-drivers
Taxi fares west erase the saving in two days.

Is Grand Cayman safe?
- One of the Caribbean's safest destinations, with low crime and no severe street homelessness or encampments.
- Never leave valuables visible in a rental car or a bag unattended while snorkelling.
- The sea is the real risk: south and east currents, winter nor'westers, shuffle for stingrays and never snorkel alone in current.
Grand Cayman travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Cruise day George Town and noon Stingray City crowds. Go at 7:30am or on a no ship day.
- The Turtle Centre sold as a pure sanctuary. Dolphin swim programmes and peak resort day passes.
- Duty free jewellery presented as a bargain, and tipping on top of a 15 to 18 percent service charge already added.
Getting around Grand Cayman: public transport and more
- Rent a car if you go beyond Seven Mile Beach. Driving is on the left through frequent roundabouts.
- Taxis are unmetered and priced by zone tariff, so confirm the fare first. Public minibuses run the West Bay Road spine by day.
- Use the Cayman Ferries water taxi between Camana Bay and Kaibo / Rum Point as transport and excursion.
