Think twice about
- All of Afghanistan, including Bamiyan province
Do not go today, on any itinerary, organised or not.
- Afghanistan-Pakistan border regions
Border tensions and closures occur, and violent clashes have occurred in border regions.

Ruins were mined during the wars and unexploded ordnance remains a risk across Afghanistan. Stay on worn paths.

- Women are barred from parks including Band-e Amir under current rules, and a mahram is required for long distance travel.

Bamiyan travel tips: tourist traps to skip
- Paying international prices for local standard rooms without an operator first confirming operation, heating, and hot water.
- Buying antiquities or accepting offers to export them: export is illegal and authorities check.
Getting around Bamiyan: public transport and more
- No usable public transport: private car or 4WD with a local driver for everything, arranged through an operator or hotel.
- The Kabul to Bamiyan road takes several hours over mountain passes; the Band-e Amir track needs a 4WD and an early start.
