And where to stay, the best time to visit, what a day costs, and the traps to skip.
Best time to visit Baalbek
• a note or something on ✦ an occasion worth the trip
Spring in the valley: green fields, wildflowers around the ruins and comfortable walking temperatures.
Grape harvest season, warm days and cold clear nights. Best combined ruins and wine window.
Hot exposed acropolis at midday and festival season, with dates and location security dependent.
Cold wet winter, possible snow on the Beirut road, short days and the weakest window.
What's on
- Baalbek International Festival July to August
Concerts inside the acropolis since 1956. Suspended through the Civil War, relocated in 2013, cancelled in 2024, returned July 2025 with Carmen. Dates provisional and security dependent.
